Mikelson opts out of 3rd Fedex Cup event….AND not feeling too bad about it

I find it interesting that there is a playoff where players don’t have to play to stay in the running. I think that says something about the way points are calculated perhaps.

And Phil pulling out AFTER making those comments about his frustration with Finchem…hmmm….don’t like the looks of that. Phil, did your mother not tell you, “If you have nothing good to say, say nothing”? Perhaps if you hadn’t shared your frustration, some of us wouldn’t think you were sulking.

I have to say that so far, I’m not impressed with the structure of the Fedex Cup. I like the way it is in baseball. When a team makes the playoffs, it plays until it wins or loses. There’s no opting out of a playoff game. I know I know…there are lots of players to spread around, but still…I don’t like it that the best in the world don’t have to play to win.

Perhaps a break is needed after the last “point event” before the playoffs where players can rest. Then I’d like to see the points start at zero before the playoffs start. Make them play all 4 games and see who comes out on top. The chance of a cinderella story is better and we get to see the big guns 4 weeks in a row!
